Tasting Notes

Gemischter Shatz, what's that?! It's a field blend produced from several different grape varieties which are picked and co-fermented together. In this case, it's a blend of Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Neuburger, and Traminer. So much to like here! A delightfully joyous, fresh, and juicy white. Green apple, citrus, and white peach on the palate, with a slight spritz, with a lovely apply blossom scent and bruised fresh green herbs on the nose. Don't say we didn't warn you! This is such a versatile and unique wine.

More Info

One thing that never fails to make us happy here at Swig, is seeing a vineyard filled with life. And no, we're not talking about the grapes growing on the vines, but the life beneath and around them, wildflowers growing between the rows, and the air buzzing with insects, bees and birds. Say no to monoculture, and yes to nature and organic farming! And that's just what we have at Winery Christoph Bauer, located north of Vienna, in the region of Weinviertel. Gruner Veltliner rules here as king, and Christoph and his wife Heidi are dedicated to producing artisan wines with clear varietal and vintage character, balancing traditions with modern innovations. We're delighted to have them join the Swig family!

FROM THE PRESS

“Christoph Bauer Gemitscher Schatz from vineyards north of Vienna is completely new to me, though, being a bonkers field blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Neuberger and Traminer, harvested and fermented together. It’s lively and thirst-quenching, full of green apple and citrus with hints of grass and herbs, and has just the faintest of prickles in the mouth. In short, it’s perfect summer fare.”
