Tasting Notes

"The special one to drink with food. What you will notice is that the flavour of the cheaper stuff is often completely drowned out by food.  But some wines are so complex and inviting they are almost a feast in themselves and they can make a plate of simple but high-quality food feel very special indeed.' A coral-coloured rosé unlike any other I’ve tasted. Aurelia takes you to a lush subtropical island garden, where the scent of orange blossom, green mango and peaches mingles with a saline sparkle from the nearby sea air. The palate has patisserie richness but it dances and swirls and tastes fresh. Fermented in barrels and concrete eggs. Savour each sip and put it on the table with a roast butcher’s chicken or side of salmon. Don’t fret about the vintage – this is perfect right now." - Victoria Moore, The Telegraph - May 2024 "Smells of orange groves and summer stone dust. On the palate, creamy, tropical and rich – like a liquid Eton mess with mango on top. Lavish flavour and texture but the acidity glitters through the wine with a sherbet-metal-dust lustre. Long and superior." Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com Nov. 2022 The most 'gourmand' of the Grand Cros bottlings, fermented and aged in a mix of old oak and concrete agg. As Tamlyn Currin from Jancisrobinson.com commented, "real kerpow rosé!" Poached rhubarb and perfectly ripe peaches muddled with crème anglaise and crushed meringues. Croissant dough and cinnamon buns on the palate, quite tropical at the forefront with guava and pineapple, with zippy cranberry, wet stones and raspberry coulis swirled into vanilla butter cream. Textured white lovers unite! It’s the creaminess that stands out and lingers here, very long in the mouth, sprinkled with baking spice and orange. Very impressive.

More Info

Located in the foothills of the Massif des Maures, the stunning Grand Cros estate is like something out of a feelgood Romcom, with the old manor house and vineyards surrounded by pine trees, olive groves and dry stone terraces. Owned by the Faulkner family since 1989, they're a traditional family run outfit who bowled us over with their integrity and humble genius, foregoing the marketing bumph of some of their neighbours to produce honest and delicious wines. And we're not the only ones who think so, in 2015, Decanter magazine selected their 2014 rosé as best rosé in the world, as well as the range catching the attention of none other than the queen of vino herself, Jancis Robinson, who has included their wines in no less than 3 of her top 10 lists for the year.
