The Best Pinot Noir on the Planet!

Soli Pinot Noir 2015

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, the new vintage of Soli has amazed us yet again. Each year it pulls off the trick of reminding us again and again how brilliant it is! Much like the Harry Potter series or Lord of the Rings, each wine provides its own unique story within the greater narrative of a quite extraordinary wine in terms of punching above its weight. What we said of our first Soli vintage remains as true as ever for the 2015 – it easily holds its own next to a decent Chambolle-Musigny or Morey-Saint-Denis. Numberless blind tasting among friends and trade colleagues have demonstrated this over the last few years, while the rave reviews from critics (Jancis Robinson’s Wine of the Week; Critics’ Choice at the Sommelier Wine Awards, etc) similarly attest to the quality you get in the bottle from this Bulgarian pinot! It’s easily one of the most consistently high-quality/value wines we sell.

Stick your nose in this and you get that mouthwatering, autumn leaves, smoky sous bois, minerally pinot perfume, wild strawberry, red cherry, orange rind, sandalwood-clove hints. The palate is mellow and supple, orange-inflected red berry fruit, hint of vanilla wood spice, sweetly suggestive mercurial pinot style all the way, autumnal with soft tannins and a fine backbone of acidity. Yet again, a really moreish, impressive pinot from Bulgaria. Hats off.

And with food? Well it has to be some game bird or other. If you're fortunate enough to be able to buy some, roasted grouse on toast soused with the roasting juices, perhaps with a desultory spoonful of blackberries, would be an autumnal gastronomic dream come true.
