Offer - Niepoort's Spell-Binding Redoma Branco 2016

The Fine Wine of the Future by Genius - Dirk Niepoort

Douro | Rabigato, Códega, Viosinho, Donzelinho, Gouveio and others | ABV: 12.5%

The grapes used for the Redoma Branco come from old vines growing on the right bank of the Douro River, at an altitude of 500-600m. The mica schist soils here provide plenty of minerality, elegance and tension. Some parcels of Redoma 2016 were harvested as early as the end of August. In the cellar, the pressed juice was left to settle for approximately 24 hours, then fermentation took place in French oak barrels on fine lees, but without bâtonnage. No malolactic fermentation, so it's retained this fine acidity - but believe us when we say it's beautifully balanced. The wine matured for nine months in barrel.

Incredible freshness, elegance and minerality. Its aromas are still relatively shy, with hints of stone, but with some time in the glass the wine develops more and more complexity, offering flinty notes as well as a waxy citrus and floral character reminiscent of orange blossoms. Really quite Burgundian. The wood is in perfect harmony with the fresh and mineral aromas. On the palate a light creaminess is married to a fantastic natural acidity, resulting in a well-balanced, firm and persistent feel. Rich yet fresh and light, it's an almost paradoxical wine. More importantly, it's a joy to drink.
