It's always a treat when we catch this man's wines in our tractor beams. Jancis Robinson has likened this to fine white Burgundy and we couldn't agree more! The concentration and delicate minerality of this wine seperates it from the crowd and definitively marks it out as the finest example among its peers. 'Louro' is one of Spain’s best value, high quality whites. On tasting this we were on to the producer within seconds - just in time to snap up our allocation. Phew!  It’s a perfect dinner party white as it looks super smart, it’s quite cool and different, but also classic and very convincing to taste!


Rafael Palacios's reputation as Spain's best white wine maker (ask any critic) boils down to his obsessive focus on one grape variety, Godello, and the high-altitude, granitic terroir of Valdeorras in north-west Spain. As befits a member of the Redondo Palacios family (his brother is Priorat superstar Alvaro Palacios; this is a family that really sits among Spain’s winemaking elite), Rafael Palacios’ Godellos have become the benchmark by which other Iberian white wines are judged. Rafael purchased a selection of mature vineyards (the oldest being 90 years-plus) in Valdeorras in 2004, motivated by the idea of reviving this unique sub-zone of the Bibei Valley in the municipality of O Bolo.
