Orbitofrontal Cortex is named after the part of your brain where conscious decisions are made. It's fair to expect great things with a wine made as the consciously selected best of the best....! On the nose, we have layers of sun dried hay, tonnes of sweet conference pears, baked apples, even some fresh crunchy green apple acidity. It's an intricately put together number, but no fear, if you like your whites with texture, crunch, ripe fruit and with a story, then this is for you.

Tasting Notes

In life, there's always a bit of a tendency to prefer the option that we can't always have. The special edition nail varnish, the limited edition art works. Oh there's no shame here, even that Summer special burger from Mcdonalds. So, when things become available when we're told they're a once off? Well, that's just a nifty little bonus. Orbitofrontal Cortex - the second vintage from Pieter Walser. It's very close in style to the 2015, just maybe a little bit better. One plus for us is it comes in at a steady 12.5% - a valiant effort for someone who speds over 100 days on the road for harvest. It's a blend of Grenache Blanc, Fernao Pires, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Semillon and Clairette Blanche. You can read the full story here on his website:

Julia Harding MW ( 17 points: "Smoky pear aroma. Creamy but with the sour-fresh tang of pear and quince. Dry, chewy, as much texture as flavour, with leesy richness. Deep and satisfying. Drink 2017-2020" The Orbitofrontal Cortex 2016 (named after the part of your brain where conscious decisions are made) is a blend Grenache Blanc, Fernão Pires, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Semillon and Clairette Blanche. As might be inferred from the components of the blend, it’s a complex wine. Pear, white peach, earth and spice on the nose while the palate is lean and very flavourful with bright acidity and a pithy finish. As with just about everything Walser does, it’s demanding but rewarding. Editor’s rating: 94/100.
