A beautiful, perfumed and dainty Chateauneuf, with poise that utterly belies it's 15% abv. Such a refreshing style in the sea of mediocrity that is Chateauneuf du Pape.

Tasting Notes

Owners Jacques and Anne Callet took over the Chateau in 1996, vowing to return the estate to it's former glory - dizzy days in the 17th century when the estate and vineyards were run by the Archbishop of Avignon. An awful lot has happened since then - a full renovation of their "humble castle" and restoration of the cellars, an extensive replanting scheme and a full conversion to organics, gaining their Ecocert in 2010. 2012 saw the arrival of Philippe Cambie - former rugby player turned oenologist and Grenache obsessive, as well as being Robert Parker's much applauded "best oenologist in the world" in 2010. 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah from one site on the famous "galet roules" soils - that is battered by the ferocious Mistral for around 100 days a year.

Press Note:

The 2014 ‘Clos du Roi’ opens to aromas of red fruits and spices woven together with licorice and herbal characteristics. On the palate this medium-bodied red offers an elegant, silky texture with red fruits carrying over onto the finish. Today, this is still quite youthful and will require some additional time in bottle to flesh out." International Wine Report 93 points and a Silver Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards
