Tasting Notes

It might just be the best thing to come out of Bulgaria since Stantcho Stanev, Colonel Gadaffi's chief camel herder (look it up, Wikipedia wouldn't lie!). We regularly recommend this to anyone looking for a delicate red Burgundy, not simply because it's a fraction of the price, but because it genuinely offers a better experience than any Bourgogne Rouge we have ever tried and doesn't look out of place next to a decent Chambolle-Musigny or Morey-Saint-Denis. It's one of the softest, prettiest Pinot Noirs on our list and has an effortless charm and grace, as all European Pinot Noirs should, but seldom do. The winemaker has gone to all the trouble of selecting Burgundy Pinot Noir clones to plant in his vineyard (clone spotters may be interested to know that they are as follows: 777 - 3,6 ha; 521 - 1,2 ha, 375 - 0,9 ha, and 115 - 4,1 ha).

Press Note:

On the 2014: Is there a better value Pinot out there? Nicely made, crunchy fruit, great acidity, depth of flavour. Made by an Italian in Bulgaria. Peter Dean, The Buyer Press on previous vintages: "Try Swig's amazing Bulgarian Pinot Noir, Edoardo Miroglio's 2009 Soli from Thracia, whose fine, tangy, smoky, deeply elegant style would even make Burgundians feel uneasy". - Jane MacQuitty, The Times. "Any burgundy lover would be impressed by this wine’s delicacy – and its price" Jancis Robinson

Robin's Note:

I've been so impressed with the Pinot Noirs from Miroglio. This is my favourite vintage yet. It has more of the magical 'Je ne sais quoi' than previous vintages, which is very exciting, and suggests that as the vineyards mature this remarkable value is going to get better still!
