Chateau Gigognan

'Grenache is the king grape; it is the Pinot Noir of the Rhône.'–Philippe Cambie, aka 'Mr Grenache'

For monumentally good-value CDR and CNDP, look no further. Anne and Jacques Callet purchased the 17th-century Château Gigognan in
Sorgues in 1996. Once theArchbishop ofAvignon’s pad, it had fallen into a state of obscurity, howeverthe Callets set out to restore it to its former
glory. They renovated the cellars, achieved organic certification fortheir vineyards (30ha in Chateauneuf duPape, 42ha in Côte du Rhône) and hired
Grenache-obsessed winemakerPhilippe Cambie (former French frontrow rugby player and RobertParker’s ‘BestWinemaker of theYear’, no less).
The results are there for all to see in their superb southern Rhône bottlings.
