Tasting Notes
English wine is no longer something of a gimmick – these wineries are becoming serious contenders in the world wine scene and Blackbook Winery is one of those at the forefront of this, particularly with their extraordinarily brilliant Pinot Noir. I was lucky enough to try this from barrel last year and even in its infancy you could tell this was brilliant fruit and truly ground breaking quality and it hasn’t disappointed a year on in bottle either!

It’s made from burgundy clones planted at the Clayhill vineyard in Essex, which is fast becoming one of the most in demand sites in the UK. What really struck me on first tasting is how like Gevrey Chambertin it is in style with those darker fruit flavours lifted by a rose and violet top note. We are truly excited about this and the incredibly bright future it signals for English wine. This is a great opportunity to say you were there at the beginning!
