A luminous and lifted red blend from Mr Badenhorst. Predominantly Shiraz, with Grenache, Tinta Barocca and some Cinsault from mostly old bushvines growing in the decomposed granite soils of the Paardeberg mountain. Very youthful, with a kaleidoscope of aromas - cherries, blackberries and redcurrant coulis, and multilayered floral aromas-roses, lavender, pink peppercorns and violets. So much quivering energy and vitality, with very fine but firm tannins and a chalky mineral core that promise a long and exciting future for this wine.
We firmly believe that Adi Badenhorst is the most exciting winemaker in South Africa. He is also the most frustrating. His laid back, self-deprecating, playful manner keeps you guessing and makes you wonder whether he has any idea what he is actually doing, whether he just chucks some grapes into a vat and hopes for the best, but we know full well that there is a huge amount of expertise that goes on behind closed doors, when no one is around to witness his skill and diligence ...and spoil his reputation!
FROM THE PRESS
“Built on a foundation of Shiraz, with the remainder divided between Grenache, Cinsault and Tinta Barocca, this has lots of whole bunch fermentation and an engaging combination of red berry and damson fruit, wild herbs and a firm, sturdy, braai-friendly backbone of tannins.”Tim Atkin MW
“Predominantly Shiraz, with Grenache, Tinta Barroca and some Cinsault from mostly old bush vines growing in the decomposed granite soils of the Paardeberg mountain. Energetic, fynbos. Iron-man tannins. The fruit is extrovert; the herbs and tannins pull it inwards. Has the Badenhorst gift of being playful and exuberant yet serious and nuanced. Long fresh finish. Drink 2021 – 2028, 17.”Tamlyn Currin, Jancisrobinson.com
