Tasting Notes

Westwell Wines is a forward-thinking English winery based in the North Downs in Kent. Owner-winemaker Adrian Pike and viticulturist Marcus Goodwin (both previously worked for English organic pioneer Davenport, Marcus for 20 years) are committed to working sustainably in the vineyard and work with a low-interventionist approach in the cellar (wild ferments as standard).

They actually do produce sparkling wine, which is very lovely, but we have been especially taken by their still wine offering. Forget the staid image of English still wine - its associations of flower shows, lunatics in tweed and reflux-inducing levels of acidity; these are wines made with a view towards modern tastes and wine styles - Adrian plays around with everything from skin contact whites to amphora-ageing and pet nats.
