"To be discovered urgently"

Chateau de Messey is in Ozenay, and this area is known as Macon-Cruzille, about an hour north of Macon. The wines are made by a brilliant winemaker, Frederic Servais, who was recognized as winemaker of the year by 'Burgundy Aujourd'hui' a few years ago. They have two vineyards, both organically farmed, reaching certification last year. One is a ‘Clos’ in the woods, on a hillside, higher than most in Burgundy at 360 to 420 m (which is good for a longer growing seaon and flavour development, as well as conferring a real freshness and nerve to the wines) that is surrounded by trees. It's also what's known as a 'monopole', as it's farmed exclusively by one producer. It's just 5 hectares and as the top soil is thin, and mixture of small limestone stones, and limestone clay, on top of limestone, that naturally produces low yields, and good tight berries, that can deliver complexity in the wine. It is classified as Macon-Cruzille. The other is a bit lower and adjacent to the cellar and is also 5 hectares, and is classified as Macon-Villages. Frederic Servais sells some of the fruit to a well-known white burgundy producer and friend of his, Bret Bros.
