Tasting Notes

You could be in a winter gale in the middle of the North sea and still have visions of sunshine, palm trees and steelpan drums while sipping this...  It has an amazing scent of Amalfi lemons, almost like an essential oil, with tropical fruit notes too. The palate also has this delicious lemony character and juicy texture. There is a special type of lemon that you can eat, skin and all, which is so delicious, and this reminds us of that. It's the kind of wine we love to drink when cooking and to kickstart the senses - a tasty, tangy jolt of loveliness at the end of a working day - with some olives, feta cheese and herbs, hummus and olive oil.  Of course, it's suited to fish with lemons, any shellfish, roast lemon chicken or dishes with cheese. But we like this kind of wine so much I can drink it with any meal. Even breakfast.

More Info

Hailing from the subregion of Alcamo in Western Sicily, the Vesco family have been tending vines, olive groves and wheat in this area for 100 years. Since the early 90s, they've revolutionised their farming and cellar practices, and are today combining traditional techniques with modern technology to resounding success. With nearly 100 hectares under vine, they're known as a trailblazer on the island for organic and sustainable viticulture.  Meno means less in Italian, so expect less handling, less intervention and less filtering and SO2, but certainly no less flavour! NB! This wine is unfiltered, like many fine, more expensive wines, to preserve as much character and texture as possible. It can have a slight haze at the very bottom of the bottle which can look a bit cloudy when shaken up. But this is all part of the brilliant character and nature of this wine.
