Tasting Notes
Really would not be surprised if I was told that this was left bank Bordeaux. Dense blackcurrant, mulberry, plum (though fresh – not over-ripe). Only possible doubt would be owing to the sense of sweetness to the fruit.
More Info
On the nose, notes of toasty tobacco and graphite, wafts of something herbaceous, hints of undergrowth and the beginnings of a tertiary character. The palate is first savoury, then sweet, silky, plush fruits, dried cranberry and currant, and toast and dried herbs. The savoury-bitter tannins are beginning to melt and feel quite noble, gently materialising over a long, Mahler adagietto-invoking finish. Very impressive, just beginning to show mature notes and a must for lovers of South African claret-style wines.
