Owner Marc Dumont purchased the chateau complete with ancient vaulted cellars and 89ha of vines in the early '90s and the quality has sky-rocketed in the last few years. The estate is run by Fredereic Servais, named Winemaker of the Year in 2017 by Appelation Bourgogne for his work at Clos des Poncetys. The character is deeper and more complex than most Macon, and in fact, this is an hour to the North of Macon. Then you have to pump chemical fertiliser in to counter the damage and end up with artificially high yields. The only people winning are the chemical manufacturers. With organic farming there are no short cuts. You have to look after your vines very carefully and work hard to keep them healthy in order to get a decent crop. Organic farming keeps yields low - which means better concentration and of course better wines. Healthier soils also allow the terroir to shine. Ask any Burgundy winemaker worth their salt and they'll confirm this. Originally intended as a place to breed horses and a family retreat. It's an area from which producers of Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Puligny-Montrachet, eagerly buy grapes, as they're allowed to put into their wines up to 20% from outside their own appellation. They took on a very good winemaker, Frederic Servais, who won winemaker of the year in 'Bourgogne Aujourd'hui', in 2017.
