One of Adi's rare single vineyard bottlings, not released every year. Adi has commented in the past to us how for him, this is the finest Chenin Blanc or Steen vineyard in the Swartland - the perfect balance between site, varietal and vine age. It's a steep terraced site, with bands of fynbos growing inbetweem - perfect hiding places for the dassies! It's got a long future ahead of it - stone fruit and ripe pears, creamy-waxy notes just beginning to emerge, white tea and a lingering stoniness and wild herbs.
We firmly believe that Adi Badenhorst is the most exciting winemaker in South Africa. He is also the most frustrating. His laid back, self-deprecating, playful manner keeps you guessing and makes you wonder whether he has any idea what he is actually doing, whether he just chucks some grapes into a vat and hopes for the best, but we know full well that there is a huge amount of expertise that goes on behind closed doors, when no one is around to witness his skill and diligence ...and spoil his reputation!
FROM THE PRESS
“"Dassiekop was the first single vineyard Chenin Blanc from Adi Badenhorst, taking its first bow in 2011. Located at 350 metres and surrounded by aromatic fynbos, this is a classic expression of granite soils: concentrated, dense and focused, all pear, wax and lanolin with mouth-watering freshness and length. 95/100 Drink 2022-27"”Tim Atkin MW, SA Report 2021
