61% Chenin Blanc, 13% Sauvignon Blanc, 23% Chardonnay and 3% Viognier, with the backbone of the Chenin blanc from a 40 year old, unirrigated vineyard called ‘Riverside’. 2018 was quite the challenging year for South Africa at the peak of the four year drought, but this is a triumph. Citrus and stone fruit with a soft tease of vanilla, freshly green cut apple, frangipane and a hint of cut grass and earthiness. There's notable richness on the palate from the lees contact, and it finishes long and limey. Delish!
Keermont Estate may well take the prize for most beautiful vineyards and views in all of South Africa. And yup, there's some pretty stiff competition! Nestled in a natural amphitheatre between the Stellenbosch and Helderberg mountains, their ambition is to produce wines that reflect the natural wonders of this exquisite place.
FROM THE PRESS
“Audaciously succulent and generous. Peaches and caramel, pecan pie and orange melon, mango and allspice. Lots here! Pepper. Fennel. Pings around the palate with so much sharpshooting brightness but there is also this close-to-voluptuous richness. Seductive siren-call of a wine. 17”Tamlyn Currin, Jancisrobinson.com
