Forget Cloudy Bay, forget Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre, this Horgelus Sauvignon/Gros Manseng blend costs almost half the price and delivers as much if not more. Typically it shows bright, lifted notes of lemon/lime, melon and grapefruit and a delicate herbaceous character. The Sauvignon Blanc element brings a classic nettle and elderflower zip, while the Gros Manseng gives a gorgeous tropical fruit depth. Endlessly quaffable. Drink from: the moment it's in your possession. Drink until: the bottle is empty.
Horgelus has long been one of our best value whites for the price. Located in the pretty Gascon village of Montréal du Gers in the foothills of the Pyrenées, on the pilgrimage route of Santiago de Compostela. Winemaker Yoan Le Menn has not put a foot wrong in the 10 years we have known him, and his wines never fail to delight.
