Tasting Notes

The highest rated English sparkling wine on JancisRobinson.com and DOUBLE WINNER of 'English Sparkling Wine Trophy' - IWSW and Decanters 'BEST UK SPARKLING WINE' Only 1000 bottled.  "On the palate, this is impressively deep and rich. Mouth-filling and yet balanced by great freshness. A powerhouse of finesse, if that is not a contradiction in terms. Almost savoury on the finish thanks to that long lees ageing, ripe yellow fruit flavour balanced by citrusy acidity. Creamy riches, carried by the fine and persistent mousse. Very long. Even better than the 2013 tasted in 75-cl bottle in 2017." 18pts Decanter

More Info

With its Blanc de Noirs 2010 being named Supreme Champion at the inaugural Wine GB Awards, and its Cuvée 2013 being named the UK’s Best Sparkling Wine in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017, AND winning the English Sparkling Wine Trophy in the International Wines and Spirits Challenge 2017, life is good for Wiston Estate. It’s a testament to the combined efforts and expertise of estate managers Richard and Kirsty Goring, and winemaker Dermot Sugrue, and confirms Wiston as a genuine trailblazer of quality English sparkling wine. Taking inspiration from his previous work in Champagne, Dermot prefers to use old Jacques Prieur Burgundy barrels for fermentation and ageing of Wiston’s vintage wines and his approach to winemaking is all about patience – as such Wiston sparkling wines will only ever be released once they have reached pitch-perfect readiness.

FROM THE PRESS

“Very toasty nose. The barrel ageing has made a huge impact on this wine, nose and palate. It’s rich and spicy, deeply golden in flavour, grilled brioche, golden peaches, satsumas and saffron. It rolls across the tongue like trumpet and drum, silvery notes slipping through old gold, intent, piercing. A very, very sophisticated sparkling wine. Good Value. Drink 2020 – 2027.”
Tamlyn Currin, Purple Pages, JancisRobinson.com
“This is a pivotal wine for Wiston and I am certain that it will shock anyone who tastes it. It is genuinely impressive.”
