I love this wine for its elegance and lightness but take another sip and you notice the depth and complexity. The nose is captivating. It is pretty and perfumed with the tantalising bitter-sweet aromas of Ripasso in the background. Packed full of cherry and a beautiful sweet and sour balance. On the palate, a melange of summer fruits - raspberrys and strawberrys with a peppering of balsamic and a hint of green pepper. Fantastic as a tipple, but will come into its own with food!
Enjoy it with risotto with asparagus, broad beans, pasta with light meat ragu, light meats such as chicken or rabbit with herbs. You can have this bottle open for 2 or 3 days – becoming deeper and even more delicious with opening.
FROM THE PRESS
“I find it baffling that this wine, which is first rung on the ladder of this glorious estate, is as rewarding and lip-smacking as bottles costing twice the price from other Valpolicella producers. There is no oak employed here and so this wine is fully exposed and this means that while we are able to taste every detail of its fruit we would also be able to spot any flaws or fissures in its delivery. It is therefore very heartening to report that this is a flawless and thoroughly lip-smacking wine and how many times can you say that about an £18 red? 18/20”Matthew Jukes
“Green coffee beans and sage through chocolate-chased cherry fruit. These tannins are like a street dancer waltzing. So, so, so delicious. Almost salty in its intensity. Dried damsons, green pepper, red apples dipped in balsamic vinegar. Apple mint sweet-fresh lift on the finish. This is just so lovely. Drink 2021 – 2027, 17.”Tamlyn Currin, Jancisrobinson.com
