Tasting Notes
Chocolately woodspice, coffee grounds and smoky vanilla waft over a deep pool of ripe dark berries and dried herbs. This is concentrated with some substantial (yet fine, savoury) tannins at this point, but the acidity makes it feel so succulent. I’d like to see this age for three to five years, but right now, with a bit of rare roast beef, Yorkies and gravy, oh yes please. Those tannins are going to mellow over time and the tarry, slightly earthy, succulent blackberry fruit should mature beautifully.

Located in the western corner of Cahors in the village of Lacapelle-Cabanac, third generation winemaker Benoit Aymard took over the reins of his small and slightly dilpidated family domaine in 2014. He enjoys drinking Gamay and Loire reds, and it's this freshness and drinkability that guides his decisions at harvest and in the cellar. Thus, Benoit focuses on emphasising the beautiful fruit that Malbec can offer and moving away from the more austere or over extracted style Cahors and the grape is known for.
