It's back! The oh-so-popular and fabulous Keermont estate Merlot. Hailing from two distinct blocks on the farm and with a wee drop of Cabernet Franc, it has a beautiful dusty, ripe strawberry fruit nose with notes of dried herbs, cigar box and cinnamon. The palate is soft, but clean and elegant, with a little orange rind and dried herbs. Soft chalky tannins and good natural acidity help to maintain a fresh elegance and a long, succulent dry finish.
Most of you will be familiar with the names of winemaker Alex Starey and Keermont - the estate we've gone on record as saying is the best Stellenbosch property to have emerged in the past 20 years. Back in 2015, tasting Keermont's Companion red blend (which in effect the Keermont Merlot is derived from) at Cape Wine almost caused Imogen to expire on the spot she was so impressed. We've shipped as much as we can get our mitts on ever since.
FROM THE PRESS
“Alex Starey's Merlot hails from two contrasting blocks - High Road and Homestead - on clay and lighter, less water-retentive soils. Graceful subtle and floral, with no new wood interference, notes of mint and fresh earth, ripe mulberry fruit and a funky undertone. 93 points, drink 2022-28”Tim Atkin MW, SA report 2021
