From a 3ha marl and limestone climat with average vine age of 60 years, on average planted at high density on a broad, west-facing slope up to 390m elevation. A little more spicy- elegant, incense spice, a hint of peony or rose. Lifted aromas, bright cherry, redcurrant and cassis fruit, showing concentration and finesse – fine and very well defined. A very faint musk note. Lip-smacking freshness and ‘calcaire de St-Romain’ minerality.
Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson is a sensational producer. They are most definitely a feather in our cap. We don’t come across producers like this often, that aren't already being imported to the UK. In fact, it would be just a few like this in a lifetime, such is the quality of terroir they have, but more importantly what they’re doing with it. The Sous La Velle is one of 4 lieu-dits made by the Buisson brothers, each as good as the last.
FROM THE PRESS
“Certified organic. Needed a bit of air when it was first poured. Smoky cherry aroma with a touch of bacon, but on the palate a burst of scented red fruit, precise and full of juice. Beautifully balanced with refined tannins that taste as if they've been lightly rubbed down with stems. Not the longest, but the almost minty-fresh finish is so neat and elegant, and the generosity of fruit on the mid palate so satisfying, that only the most miserable would complain.”Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com
