Tasting Notes
This has it all! It's probably the best Meifort made to date. It's a wine that after a few years you can decant and put alongside £25/35 clarets and people can think this is the better claret. The 2018 is the purest it's ever tasted. New lead winemaker Brad Paton, has kept out some of the more rustic tannins that could appear in this wine, and just selected better fruit, that might otherwise have gone into the top red, Christine. It is ridiculously good, and although it could do with a bit of time, it will age for 10 years, it is also drinking better than other young Meiforts and can most definitely be enjoyed now.
More Info
We loved our visit to Buitenverwachting, set in Constantia’s oldest and most prized vineyard, as much for the people as for its wines and beautiful setting. The ever-genial host and owner, Lars Maack, is always smiling. He is joined by Brad Paton, who is one of the most lovely and talented winemakers around, and the equally delightful, and wise-headed, Herman Kirschbaum, the previous cellar master who now oversees the vineyards.
