Tasting Notes

Really would not be surprised if I was told that this was left bank Bordeaux. On the nose, there's notes of toasty tobacco and graphite, wafts of something herbaceous, hints of undergrowth and the beginnings of a tertiary character. The palate is first savoury, then sweet, silky, plush fruits, dried cranberry and currant, and toast and dried herbs. The savoury-bitter tannins are beginning to melt and feel quite noble, gently materialising over a long, Mahler adagietto-invoking finish.

More Info

At 7 years old, this is tasting really quite extroardinary. A blend of equal quantities Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from Keermont's own vineyards, crafted by winemaker Alex Starey's fair hands, it is a must for lovers of South African claret-style wines.

FROM THE PRESS

“The 2014 Estate Reserve is a blend of 37% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot and 2% Syrah. It has an intense bouquet of black cherries, boysenberry, pressed iris petals and a touch of iodine, all very focused and seeming to just close up a little with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins framing crisp blackberry and bilberry fruit laced with licorice and sea salt. It feels very composed on the finish, yet I suspect that it might close up for a couple of years. Have a cellar handy.”
