Tasting Notes
There's something pretty magical about the Mullineux Straw wine. With grapes harvested from their two best old vine sites at normal ripeness and then left to dry for 2-4 weeks which highly concentrates the acids, sugars and flavours. A very slow fermentation (11 months) brings huge complexity to the palate too. Marzipan, acacia honey, dried apricots and physalis, the palate is unctuous but with astonishing freshness and energy. More Info
Founding members of the Swartland Revolution, four times winner Platter Guide Winery of the Year, and The Wine Enthusiast's Winemaker of the Year 2016, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are one serious power couple. Based just outside of Riebeek Kasteel on their farm Roundstone, their ambition is bottle wines that are a true expression of the Swartland. Its granite, schist and iron soils, its wind swept sites, old vines, hot climate and long, dry Summers. With Chris in charge of the vineyards and viticulture, and Andrea at the helm in the cellar, it has been a joy to see the incredible quality coming out of the estate year on year. Are there any more talented duos in South Africa? I don't think anyone would question it.
