Tasting Notes

Cuvée Prestige is probably the best value luxury Champagne in the market. It resembles Krug Grande Cuvee for its high percentage of old reserve wines, being at least 70% of the blend, and for being aged in wood. Just enjoying a bottle over an hour or two as a treat is so special. It opens up and becomes more expressive and the flavours go to another level, and it reveals even more how special it really is.  The beautiful Grand Cru Chardonnay component gives this magnificent Champagne its structure, elegance and longevity and the Pinot Noir some satisfying deep berry fruit and the Pinot Meunier some pretty, lifted fruit aromas.

More Info

Collard-Picard is one of the most exciting houses in Champagne today, who is definitely at the forefront of quality. Both Olivier and Caroline are from eminent Champagne families, and Olivier's grandfather Rene was a pioneer of organic farming in the region. They are what's known as an independent grower, based 15km west of Epernay. They have brilliant grand cru and 1er sites in Mesnil, where they grow Chardonnay and farm organically. It's also home to a couple of Champagne's most famous cuvees like Krug Le Mesnil and Salon Mesnil. In the Marne they have a site regarded as one of the best for Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. Collard-Picard age this Champagne in wood, which is very unusual, and harks back to the more traditional way of making great Champagne in the past. They opt not to do malolactic fermentation on any of the wines to preserve their character, all yeasts are indigenous too.

FROM THE PRESS

“A gleaming, quiveringly good chardonnay-based champagne (with 25% pinot meunier and 25% pinot noir). It is both luscious and taut, like a lemon tart from an expensive patisserie, with exquisite pastry and sharp, icing sugar-dusted, filling. In contrast to the nice but forgettable supermarket bottles that have flooded our lives, Collard-Picard Cuvée Prestige pauses the world. A sip is a proper sliver of luxury.”
Victoria Moore, Telegraph Weekend, April 11, 2015
“This is a great discovery, made by Champenois couple Olivier Collard and Caroline Picard. This is predominantely grand cru Chardonnay with an equal blend of premier cru Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, and is a blend of four vintages; 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008. It is matured in 700 litre foudres for 15 months and aged for a further three years in bottle before disgorgement. The result is exquisite, with notes of melon and warm brioche. Lovely richness on the palate with ripe apricot and sweet apple characters with a hint of honey on the finish.'”
