The 2018 Winter release has not disappointed. It has all the flavours you usually get with a well made Sauvignon let’s say, but also the minerality and that unique concentration of flavours which Riesling does best. You can enjoy the Winter Riesling by itself, Jancis Robinson has confessed to sipping it in the garden. You may expect me to now say it is heaven with Asian food (as that’s what we always have with Riesling, isn't it?) but with quality seafood it is superb, a bit like your Sauvignon does but better.
With this in mind let me introduce you to Stefan Winter. He has 2 loves in life; football and winemaking. In fact, after growing up in the Rheinhessen, Stefan started making wine at just 16. Shortly after this he realised Riesling’s elephant in the room; inapproachability in youth and a general lack of anything of quality in-between. He knew it was time for change and boy did he act upon it. Fast forward 30 plus years and Stefan is one of the Rheinhessen's most exciting and brilliant producers. He has set a new bar for younger winemakers to make phenomenal, vibrant and energetic Riesling.
FROM THE PRESS
“Today is the day that you order your very first case of German Riesling. Believe me, this wine is worth it and this is because it is truly dry, magically tangy and citrusy and also the proud possessor of a stunning perfume. While I was tasting this wine my cousin and her pal rocked up and they both grabbed a glass – they were so shocked at the flavour I wish I had taken a photograph to capture the pleasure on their faces. Winter is a specialist in making wines that send a glorious shiver down your spine. Take the plunge – you will not regret it!”Matthew Jukes, Money Week on the 2016 vintage
