Tasting Notes

This is glorious wine. The aromas are thrilling and uplifting with notes of fine cedar, pencil-lead, polished mahogany, chestnut and fine spice intermingling with the perfectly balanced fruit. The palate has finesse and elegance and drinks sort of like a cross between a fine Margaux and Burgundy. Do not expect big wine, but do expect a great mouthful. It's the best straight Barolo that Renato Corino has made.

More Info

To be a successful member of the chattering classes, you're supposed to respect purists, not just in wine but in all walks of life. We all have purist friends, who are into Chet Baker vinyl records and Ingmar Bergman movies, but sometimes we just want to enjoy ourselves and while this Barolo isn't for purists, who favour mouth-puckering tannins and wince-inducing sour cherry fruit, it's an absolute explosion of hedonistic pleasure that fills every nook and cranny in your mouth. Sweet, woody notes from the tight-grained French oak weave seamlessly with the concentrated Nebbiolo fruit, with its fleshy plum and red cherry notes. It's sexy and seductive and unequivocally enjoyable for drinking now and over the next 8 years.

“The 2016 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is a serious wine that shows just how compelling the vintage is, even among entry-level bottlings. Black cherry, plum, spice, leather and menthol bring out darker shades of Nebbiolo in this rich, textured La Morra Barolo. This is an especially fleshy, rich style, especially among entry-level bottlings. Plush fruit and silky, polished tannins add considerable appeal.”
