One of Adi's rare single vineyard series, from a 0.6 ha site planted in the late 70s on a rough, exposed granite outcrop. Lemon peel, apricot curd and biscuitty on the nose, with a divine palate encompassing juiciness paired with flintiness – moringa flowers, a dash of fresh pineapple juice, melon on the finish, passionfruit cream and custard apple with time open. Broad and mouth-filling, and many years to go.
We firmly believe that Adi Badenhorst is the most exciting winemaker in South Africa. He is also the most frustrating. His laid back, self-deprecating, playful manner keeps you guessing and makes you wonder whether he has any idea what he is actually doing, whether he just chucks some grapes into a vat and hopes for the best, but we know full well that there is a huge amount of expertise that goes on behind closed doors, when no one is around to witness his skill and diligence ...and spoil his reputation!
FROM THE PRESS
“"Tiny vines on granite" are the source of this remarkable Chenin Blanc, showing the focus and intensity of its site. Rocky, grippy and mouth-wateringly fresh, with a hint of passion fruit, razor wire acidity, subtle wood, textured lees and malolactic and a mineral core. Drink 2022-2028, 96 points. ”Tim Atkin MW
