Tasting Notes

One of Adi's rare single vineyard wines, from the oldest Grenache vineyard in South Africa. And we'd say it's one of the best new world examples of the grape out there. Floating aromas of wild strawberries and lavender, with a hint of soft, supple leather, charcoal, dried cranberries and bracken. Lithe, polished, and oh-so-supple, the palate is almost weightless with cool mineral undertones, damsons, redcurrant coulis, shards of meringue and wild herbs. The finish is long and silky and so mouth-watering.

More Info

We firmly believe that Adi Badenhorst is the most exciting winemaker in South Africa. He is also the most frustrating. His laid back, self-deprecating, playful manner keeps you guessing and makes you wonder whether he has any idea what he is actually doing, whether he just chucks some grapes into a vat and hopes for the best, but we know full well that there is a huge amount of expertise that goes on behind closed doors, when no one is around to witness his skill and diligence ...and spoil his reputation!

“This was planted in the 1950s, fresh strawberry nuances, cranberries with a savoury background, would like to see this age, gives a refreshing juicy aftertaste, lovely.”
Roger Jones, The Buyer
“Adi Badenhorst reckons this 1951 Grenache block is the oldest in South Africa, and who am I to argue with him? Fans of the Gredos mountain reds from Spain will love this dense, sappy, red-fruited style, with a nip of tannin, very little wood influence and a racy finish.”
