Light in alcohol, full in flavour, this wine packs a punch, and has certainly grown up over the last few vintages, whilst remaining in the red fruit spectrum. Nutmeg and sweet spice intermingled with bright vibrant redcurrant, pomegranate and strawberry, with hints of moss and fresh earth and slight ferrous notes and polished coffee bean. Tannins are lacy and fine - gorgeous to drink now, but so age-worthy too.
We firmly believe that Adi Badenhorst is the most exciting winemaker in South Africa. He is also the most frustrating. His laid back, self-deprecating, playful manner keeps you guessing and makes you wonder whether he has any idea what he is actually doing, whether he just chucks some grapes into a vat and hopes for the best, but we know full well that there is a huge amount of expertise that goes on behind closed doors, when no one is around to witness his skill and diligence ....and spoil his reputation!
FROM THE PRESS
“Fermented with 30% carbonic maceration for the first time in 2021 - Adi Badenhorst likes to shake things up - this is a stony, meaty, structured Cinsault with red cherry and bramble fruit, savoury tannins, notes of clove and tobacco leaf and negligible oak. 2023-30”Tim Atkin MW
