Our Monte Santoccio Amarone has always been a show-stopping wine, but this 2015 vintage has reached such a peak of achingly delicious, elegant, concentrated, complex gorgeousness that we can hardly find the words. And, for us, that’s a rare thing indeed. Perfect with strong cheeses.
I can’t recommend it highly enough. While, of course it has a price, compared with many that sell from £60 to £90 regularly, this is so much more interesting and special. It's one of the most delicious wines to pass my lips in the last year. This wine is ambrosial, with gorgeous fruit richness and texture (more than in previous vintages), but also complexity and flavours we’ve not seen in earlier vintages from Monte Santoccio. It’s much easier to make those power house wines than it is to make wine like Quintarelli and now, Nicola Ferrari. It is also easy to follow some famous names, who are not actually that great. But this Monte Santoccio di Nicola Ferrari is a genuine artisan making small quantities of exquisite wine. Hard not to love. This is a wine that will drink beautifully until at least 2030.
