Wow! What a great nose... abundant with sweet herbs, black cherry liqueur, exotic incense, mocha latte and spice, and on the palate, swathes of dark fruit, roast meat and sweet herbs, gliding on a velvet textured, luxurious palate. Generous, super-smooth and overtly gratifying, there is class here too... something quite serious. This is a wine you can enjoy now, in all its wonderful up-front, melt-in-the-mouth, glorious splendour... or keep and drink over the 5-7 years as it mellows and gains complexity.
There are very few wines from South Africa that have been quite as successful, or downright delicious as Boekenhoutskloof's iconic Chocolate Block. It hasn't even been officially released yet, but we have already jumped at the chance to get our sticky mitts on our allocation of this classic. We had a cheeky sneak peek bottle land at Swig HQ this week and while this is a wine that is always dependably brilliant we think they've taken it to the next level with the 2019. It is a Chocolate Block that floats on your palate like never before, with beautiful perfumed berry fruit, with a lovely sensual texture and what I can only describe as a very yummy flavour indeed.
