We have fallen for this fine Brunello hard. The fruit floats - it's so elegant - with lovely ripeness - almost a Burgundian style, and nudged together by a distinct minerality from this Montosoli Cru, that gives the wine a fine backbone, and just pulls the wine together, although there's no doubt the Brunello has that effortless V8 engine, with orange and charcoal smudged fruit. This is beautiful now, really, and will continue to drink beautifully over the next 5 years.
Jessica Pellegrini started in 2010 with 5 hectares of land that her family bought on the special hillside 'cru' of Montosoli (think of it as a top vineyard in Burgundy or Barolo), yet already she is talked about by peers as one of the top wines to seek out. Interest also rose in the wines when Fernando Pardini of 'Slow Wine' described her as the female counterpart of Il Marroneto, a producer that is getting a lot of plaudits and something of a cult following.
FROM THE PRESS
“Medium-dark red-ruby. Simple, easygoing aromas and flavors of red cherry, and red berries, plus ripe Mirabelle and yellow peach characterize this midweight bottling. Showcases outstanding balance and an undertone of wet stone to its clean, refreshing fruit-forward personality. Nicely persistent on the delicate, spicy finish. Another successful 2014 Brunello that tastes more like a very high quality Rosso di Montalcino but that will provide lots of drinking pleasure over the near term.”Ian D'Agata - Vinous
