In October last year whilst tasting at Buitenverwachting, I asked owner Lars, why the Chardonnay is so hard to come by? He explained, one of the main reasons is pressure from domestic demand. South African’s have spotted the superb quality which this Chardonnay yields.
From Cape Town to Johannesburg, both individuals and top restaurants want it for themselves. I don’t blame then. It is full bodied, powerful, big and toasty in its flavours, yet balanced and graceful. It’s rare to get Chardonnay of this level at the price.
