Tasting Notes
Gorgeous aromas of squishy ripe strawberries, raspberries, wild herbs and proper old fashioned liquorice and yeasty notes too. A fabulous foodie fizz, with good weight and long, lingering finish. 80% Pinot Meunier, with 18% of that coming from still red wine, which adds more body and colour, and 20% Chardonnay, bottled in 2015, and like Carte D'or, 6 years on lees pre disgorgement.
More Info
We were looking for a new Champagne that was good value, as we need it for restaurants we supply. We adore Collard-Picard and there is pressure on the stock of the other house we bring in, Brocard-Pierre, which has become trendy, and deservedly so. Our colleague Kate Robinson told us to try Champagne Moutardier, a Champagne she used to enjoy selling for another merchant that no longer takes it. We got samples in and, wow! I thrust a glass into my wife's hand, as I couldn't believe how delicious it was. I met the brothers Wiliam and Simon in France in February, as it all seemed too good to be true. But the wine tasted just as good there. I dug a bit deeper and it turns out they're a serial recipient of the 'Coup de Coeur' for best Champagne of its type in their region. They've also been awarded the 'Young talents of Champagne for Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier' where the lead judge was the best sommelier in the world.
