Kumeu River's new site, located in Hawkes Bay 180m above sea level, with very different terroir to their own vineyards - here is almost pure limestone . Zesty, fragrant, with ripe pears and peaches, pleasantly fleshy on the palate and tingly oyster shell minerality and fantastic length.
"If you have never tried these wines, then it is time you see for yourself what New Zealand is capable." Neal Martin, Vinous. Kumeu River is considered unanimously to be New Zealand's top Chardonnay producer, and having sold their wines on and off for over 15 years, we are over the moon to have secured a parcel of their outstanding 2020s. Estabalished in the 50s just 20kms north of Auckland, for several decades now the Brajkovich family have fashioned Burgundy-inspired wines that rival their finest old world counterparts - silky, complex, tantalising wines that have gained the favour of just about every wine journalist and MW worth their salt.
FROM THE PRESS
“I love Rays road. Classy, layered and complete this is a very different take on this grape from the remainder of the portfolio, given that the rest come from Kumeu (north of Auckland). There is a distinct beginning, middle and end here, which is often a challenge in a new wine and particularly I love the acid line and elegance on the finish.”Matthew Jukes
“Neat and well integrated, quite restrained. And already very accessible though with light, fine tannins and quite opulent fruit on the front palate. Sprightly. Lemon-pastille flavour. Very long. Beautifully made. 17 points. Drink 2021-2027”Jancis Robinson MW
