About this Wine
Of course, great wine doesn't quite make itself, but Franco's lightness of touch and talent honed over the years in Chris's Hemelrand cellar do the rest. The result is simply one of the finest chenins you will find from this vintage in South Africa. All we can say to Franco is: just keep 'em coming!
Clotted cream and zesty fruit and minerality harmonised in a chord. Some buttery pineapple, lime and that classic chenin wet wool. Concentrated yet elegantly framed. Faint flinty hint of reduction. Suggestions of Savennieres. Some zesty tropical acidity. Ripe fresh apples. Lemon and lime posset. Without doubt a textural wine with plenty of minerality mixed with tingly tangly fruit acid. No overt toast or wood. Seriously refined - even more impressive than the 2017. Delivering a ton of pleasure now but a wine that evolve beautifully over three to five years, and will keep going for considerably longer.
