I sat just appreciating the aroma for two minutes it was so good. It was amazing, just divine! This is a bottle that has arrived at its perfect point. There was a hint of game and a hint of meat/gravy-like aromas. Would it deliver on the palate too I wondered? Yes! It shows beautiful development and dimension that is in complete harmony with the nose; not quieter or louder, just a seamless continuity between the two. Drink with beef, veal and light game. This is stunning wine for drinking now.
The vineyard La Riotte lies just to the South East of Grand Crus Clos de la Roche and Clos St Denis. La Riotte shares the same geology as Grand Cru Mazoyeres-Chambertin, which is just to the North. As you can see in the map below, Morey-St-Denis is sandwiched between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. La Riotte is one of Morey’s very best 1er Crus.
