Tasting Notes
A delicious Burgundy equivalent, from a latitude almost identicaly to Gevrey-Chambertin. Vines up to 60 years old, this is highly scented and expressive, with bold, blackberry fruit, leafy notes, red currants, cinnamon and pot pourri. The palate has crushed rocks and svelte tannins. Persistent in the mouth, this is really classy, and a lovely expression of Pinot Noir.

We've found over the years that the wine producers who never get back to you are the best. And so it was with Stephane Cherrier......! Having heard exciting things about him, we made the major diversion on our trip to Burgundy in February 2022 to meet vigneron Stephane in person. What a brilliant decision that was. Located in the tiny village of Verdigny just northwest of Sancerre, he farms a scattering of hillside parcels totalling 13ha; 10 planted to Sauvignon and the remaining 3 to Pinot Noir on rocky Kimmeridgian limestone, organically too. As his father didn't bottle and instead sold the wine to other producers, Stephane is actually the one putting the name on the map. Stylistically, the domaine is about elegance, restrained power and making a lovely drink that blends beautifully with food, and ages superbly too.
