Tasting Notes

If we go back 100 years, Semillon was responsible for probably 95% of the wine made in South Africa. The name Tin Soldier is a homage to that - Semillon being the old foot soldier of the South African wine industry. Fermented on skins to extract a little tannin and the beautiful copper colour, the nose is expressive with spice, sweet papaya, ginger, citrus peel and marzipan notes.  The interplay between savoury and sweet is a key point of interest in Tin Soldier, although it needs a little time to emerge. On the nose- there's hints of oyster shell, peach kernel and buttered toast, with a finely structured palate with fresh acidity and full flavours of cape gooseberries, sesame seeds and Oolong tea. Dry and delicate, while at the same time showing a core of richness and depth.

More Info

This small but almost 'cult' winery is producing some stunning low intervention wines. Based in the beautiful Western Cape of South Africa, John and Tasha Seccombe have been making wine since 2012. Their ethos is to produce simple, honest and gentle wines that tell a story of the Cape of Good Hope. We've followed them since the very first vintages.
