Tasting Notes

Drop dead gorgeous! There’s the scent of fresh Bergamot and orange oil, lychee, lime and ripe peaches. Honeyed and sweet but in no way over-bearing thanks to the keen acidity. Just 600 bottles made – it would be a marvel with duck liver parfait and blue cheese. Puttonyos is a unit for the level of sugar in Hungarian Tokaji, traditionally measured by the number of ‘hods’ of sweet botrytised or nobly rotted grapes (known as Aszú) added to a barrel of wine. 5 Puttonyos indicates this wine has A minimum of 120g RS per litre, and in this case, it’s 140g RS/l.

More Info

Old friends of Swig, Szilvia Karádi and Zsolt Berger (hence the name) basket press all the grapes for their minuscule production from the Palandor and Naransci vineyards. Mostly Furmint, but with small parcels of Hárslevelű, they keep their yields low and the cool aspect of their sites ensure the wines always have fantastic acidity to balance the late-harvest richness. These are the sort of wines that make you double take, well worth taking a punt on!
