With its beguiling nose of intense but high-toned wild berries, smoky earth, liquorice and black pepper, this more serious take on Zweigelt manages to be both charming and serious. It walks a tight rope between the warm, spicy aromas of the Northern and Southern Rhone (Syrah), with an elegant lightness and wild fruits of Burgundy, like an old Santenay, with a hint of the stuffing and deep plum fruit and an old school quality of Bordeaux (Merlot and Cabernet).
One thing that never fails to make us happy here at Swig, is seeing a vineyard filled with life. And no, we're not talking about the grapes growing on the vines, but the life beneath and around them, wildflowers growing between the rows, and the air buzzing with insects, bees and birds. Say no to monoculture, and yes to nature and organic farming! And that's just what we have at Winery Christoph Bauer, located north of Vienna, in the region of Weinviertel. Gruner Veltliner rules here as king, and Christoph and his wife Heidi are dedicated to producing artisan wines with clear varietal and vintage character, balancing traditions with modern innovations. We're delighted to have them join the Swig family!
