But simply being radical doesn't cut the mustard, you need some chops to go with it. Christoph fortunately has that in abundance too.
Organic and meticulous vineyard work is the basis for his brilliant creations. Ripeness and concentration is a real throughline in his wines, which is in part thanks to this thoroughness amongst the vines, ensuring quality development and avoidance of disease is achieved. It is also in part to his sites, located in northeast Austria, around Weinviertel, north of Vienna.
Gruner Veltliner and Blauer Zweigelt unsurprisingly take centre stage for Christoph (though he does a stonking field blend white too) but he has some tiny parcels of local, weird and wonderful varieties as well, such as Welschriesling, Kleiner Schatz, Roter Schatz and Blauer Portugieser.
