Tasting Notes

Sourced from 6 criaderas with an average age of around 40 years, this is incredibly intense and complex from slow but steady maturation without fortification, and from a meticulous clonal selection of more than 200 ancient and mostly forgotten clones of Palomino with minimal filtrationand no fining to maintain depth of character. "Quite a deep hue for an Amontillado, with lots of sour dough, walnut, dried persimmon and some walnut. Painfully rich and salty with salted caramel, almonds and walnuts. Extremely concentrated and long" James Suckling

More Info

A titan of the Spanish wine industry - introducing Alberto Orte of Bodegas Poniente! Named after the Poniente winds, these sherries are produced from the el Aljibe vineyard in Pago Añina, and aged in a restored house tucked among the vines. Oh Alberto, where to begin. He’s the guy, at the tender age of 24, who co-founded renowned US based Spanish specialist wine importer, Olé & Obrigado. A farmer, producer and historian all in one, he’s dedicated a huge portion of his life to exploring, identifying and preserving old varieties and clones, and has successfully identified a whopping 200+ old clones of Palomino Fino and Palomino Jerez and revived and re-planted over 20 grape varieties on the brink of extinction. These sherries embrace Alberto's family's rich tradition of solera system wins from Montilla-Mores. They are one of the few bodegas that age their wines surrounded by the vineyards.
