Tasting Notes

A smorgasbord of smoky pinot flavours: sweet red cherry, blueberry, violets, spice notes, aromatic barks, a faint hint of orange blossom, a little charred wood and vanilla. The palate is supple with sweet-savoury-sour pinot fruit, mouthwatering citrusy acidity and fine tannins. Subtle and finely wrought – nothing overblown, nice maritime freshness, lovely balance and a long, smoky-cherry-pinotastic finish.

More Info

A wine with a more than unique history and story. The small village of Tesselaarsdal in the Overberg, 24km North East of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is named for East India Company settler Johannes Tesselar. On his death in 1810, he bestowed the land tohis freed slaves and owner/winemaker Berene herself is a descendant on one of those very slaves. If you look closely at the label, you can make out 2 people walking across the mountain. This is Berene and her Grandmother.

FROM THE PRESS

“The 2020 Pinot Noir has a very attractive bouquet of brambly red berry fruit, red plums and raspberry preserve, beautifully defined and seamlessly integrated with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and fresh, with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a detailed, precise, slightly savory finish. Great structure and plenty of freshness here. Superb. 92 points. Drink 2021-2032”
