Domaine Buisson
The Buisson family have been tending vines in Saint Romain since the 11th century. More recently, they added illustrious vineyards in Corton, Pommard, Meursault, Volnay and Beaune although it is the village of Saint Romain that they still call home. Now at the helm of winemaking is Gilles’ son, young Frederick, who has learnt his trade from some of Burgundy’s very best, having worked for the likes of Anne-Claude Leflaive, Jean-Claude Boisset and Ludivine Grivot. Saint Romain may have not have been classed with any premier cru sites at the time of classification, but we’re adamant this is bound to happen in the coming years. What many years ago categorized them as an ‘inferior’ village now plays in their favour; the higher elevation of their sites above the village has proven to be a saving grace with the hotter weather seen in the last few years in the region, and is bound to only put them in good stead for the future. In terms of the quality of its wines, it’s a domaine on a steep upward trajectory. In addition, they were also one of the pioneering organic domaines in this area of Burgundy, and have been certified biodynamic since 2018.
