Tasting Notes

This is all about lift, finesse and lengthy expression. A purple-infused medley of floral black fruit, sweet spice and a velvety-smooth but playfully grippy texture that undulates throughout the palate. The classically serious depth and broad-shoulders of Cote-Rotie are here but with added poise and precision. A peacock-ing kaleidoscope of sweet and savoury; fruity and spicy. What a revelation.

More Info

Stephane Ogier is without a doubt, one of the most well-respected names in the Northern Rhone valley. Prior to producing Cote Rotie under their own name, the Ogier family used to sell their fruit to Guigal, one of the most prestigious producers in the northern Rhone. That all changed in 1987 when they began bottling wines under their own name and they have been on an upward trajectory ever since, scoring 100 points with Robert Parker in several vintages. Based just south of Ampuis, with vineyard holdings dotted throughout Cote Rotie, on the Cote Blonde, Brune and Cote Rosiers.

FROM THE PRESS

“96-97 points - Opaque violet. An intensely perfumed bouquet displays mineral-accented black/blue fruit and floral pastille scents that pick up olive, smoky bacon and exotic spice notes with air—in a concentrated yet energetic style, offering appealingly sweet, palate-coating cherry liqueur, blueberry, liquorice, spice cake and candied violet flavours braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Shows superb clarity and mineral thrust on a strikingly long, floral-accented finish shaped by fine-grained, slow-building tannins. This was the only 2017 that had yet to be bottled when I visited Ogier in mid-March.”
